/// New Album: Part 1 ///
Taking on a new creative project is a BIG ORDEAL …
There are so many unknowns … in one regard it is a wonderous, limitless, playground …
On the other hand … the infinite options can be paralyzing …
As you know, this summer, I started writing and recording a NEW ALBUM !
It won’t be ready for some time, but I wanted to start sharing some of my process with YOU :)
In thinking about how to share this … it kept coming back to Bill Evans …
While imagining my newest project … I’ve been hearing two distinct sounds that I have NEVER used before …
1) the electrified piano sound of the Fender Rhodes
2) the classical string quartet !
I had been searching for some reference points within the canon of jazz music and had only to look no further than Bill Evan’s album ‘From Left to Right’ for inspiration
If you didn’t know … Bill Evans has always been a big influence of mine … his record ‘At The Montreux Jazz Festival’ was the record that turned me onto jazz and got me into upright bass in a serious way.
Above is the first cut of that record, which, to me … has an intensity and subtlety, that has intrigued me ever since
(PS … the track starts at 0:56 … if you want to skip the intros)
I hope you enjoyed this first look into my next record … much more to come soon …
